Law-enforcement tech tools: Facebook data, facial recognition: A couple of quick pointers to interesting developments at the corner of tech and the law:

• First, Reuters reports that Facebook has become a valuable tool for U.S. law-enforcement agencies. According to the article, although Facebook says it “regularly pushes back against ‘fishing expeditions’,” officials have sought and been granted warrants to access dossiers prepared by Facebook that even users themselves cannot see. It’s all legal, but because neither law enforcement nor Facebook is required to let users know their information has been searched, it’s yet another reminder that oversharing can have serious consequences.

• And in more news about tech as law enforcement tools, the Wall Street Journal reports that dozens of U.S. police agencies will soon be equipped with facial-recognition devices that attach to Apple iPhones. The technology will allow cops to quickly scan a criminal database upon contact with a suspect.
